What retrograde describes
NASA’s StarChild explanation describes retrograde as apparent movement arising from the relative positions and motions of Earth and a planet. Mercury does not physically reverse its orbit. This viewpoint description does not establish that a missed meeting, lost passport or computer failure has a planetary cause.

Use the card picture without obeying it
If you draw a card, note what you notice in its image and then answer the position’s question using actual context. There is no required reversed-card verdict. An Eight of Wands, Two of Cups, Chariot, Seven of Wands or Queen of Cups cannot establish that you must leave someone, save a relationship, take a vacation, change your appearance or protect yourself successfully from manipulation.

An ordinary home-note example
As a fictional example, someone receives a short message and initially assumes rejection. They write the exact message under Observation, their first interpretation under Assumption and another possible explanation beside it. They may choose to ask a question, take more time or decline further contact. None of those options is selected by Mercury or a card.
Keep notes at an ordinary home desk if useful. Do not share private messages, identifying details or account credentials publicly. You need not meditate, disclose feelings or maintain a positive mood to complete an exercise correctly.
No compulsory lesson or permanent answer
A difficulty need not have a cosmic purpose, and you do not owe self-improvement, reconciliation or gratitude because it happened. You cannot control every event. A card does not require you to keep a yes or no forever; your choice may change.
For consequential decisions, use relevant evidence and appropriate qualified assistance. This is optional symbolic reflection, not medical, legal, financial or safety assessment. Do not postpone a safety-related response because of a transit or excuse harmful conduct as retrograde.
