Rulership

Experience has shown that the planets are better off in certain signs compared to others. In some signs they feel at home while in other signs they might even feel bad. This was something the ancient Greeks and hellenists in Alexandria had discovered through hundreds of years, and this is something  astrologers of the western world today are using very often.

On the figure at right is shown the socalled “Basic-chart”, which shows which planet rules which sign. Further the figure show the signs concerning

– element (fire, earth, air or water)

– dynamic (cardinal, fixed or mutable)

– polarity (extroverted or introverted)

When we talk about rulership in fact there are 4 sides of this. First, there is the sign, where a planet is ruling, second its exile, third is exaltation and fourth its detriment. See the table below.

Classical rulership

The ancient Greeks didn’t know anything about Uranus, Neptune or Pluto. In their astrological systems the Sun and the Moon was ruling one sign each, while the rest of the planets was ruling in 2 signs. The system, however, is in use even today, especially within horary and daily, weekly and monthly horoscopes in the magazines.

The issue of rulership of signs by the collective planets is hotly debated by Astrologers. It is important to remember that each sign has been ruled since ancient times by a traditional planet. This relationship is not to be undermined the signs’ association with a relatively recently discovered collective planet.
